To Win Some and Lose Some

It was bound to happen... when you break rules sometimes it pays off big and you forge new ground other times you learn why the rules were instituted in the first place.

Rule Broken: Sweater Vest AND Cardigan
Breaking this rule proved to me that it is A-OK to layer two sweaters without looking bulky and stay-puft-marshmellowy.

Basically, this part of the outfit, I loved.
I would argue that from the waste up, this look is a winner.  But things go horribly wrong once you head South of my ribcage.

Rule Broken: Cropped Sweater Vest AND low rise trouser.
Fail.
Rule Broken: Dress Pants AND slipper-like shoes (instead of something with SOME kind of heel).
Fail.
Now, I'm not sure either of these rules that I've "broken" are actually codified.  But I believe the picture I am submitting here, for your review, is pretty good evidence that they should be. Soon.

I guess even in personal style you win some and you lose some.

Are you breaking any rules today?

I think you look great, Molly! I do love the top combo. I've always been so nervous to do the short necklace over collared shirt thing, but it looks fabulous on everyone (including you), so maybe I need to brave up!

I see a lot of young people running around with dirty frayed jeans or pants now. I am gratified to see that the fashion bloggers actually care about the hems on their pants. I never could understand paying two hundred dollars for a pair of jeans and then dragging them on the ground. You look wonderful and I'm sure you will come up with the right pants and shoes.

I love the collard shirt, vest, and necklace, it looks great! I break my fashion rules all the time. It usually leads to fashion disaster though, unlike this outfit. Cute!

I think the outfit is adorable! You look sweet. Maybe the pants are just a number too big ?

I like the look of the necklace under the buttoned up collar! Nice! Hey, you win some, you lose some. But isn't it great to try and see what works and then be kind enough to share it with the rest of us? I for one am grateful! Not that I have your great figure or that I could ever pull off some low rise pants, but hey, I'm just saying! :)

Adorable look and I think it's fun to break a few fashion rules here and there, it's a great way to find things that you like/work. I think you look adorable, and I too wear my pants with cute flats.

Today I am breaking? The no brown with black rule. And I am feeling like a free woman. ;-) xx veronika

I like a lot about the outfit! No way to figure things out unless you try them :)

Layering works if you can make it not make you look bulky and make it look neat - you've done both successfully!
